Water Conservation Pays Off
Thursday, January 07, 2010

At the first meeting of 2010, the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors learned that water conservation really does pay off. In December 2008, the District applied for and was successful in being awarded a $248,000 grant to help pay for the Capital Replacement of old mainlines. Before being able to receive these funds, the District had to be compliant with Assembly Bill 1420. This bill requires the District to prove conservation efforts are in place to achieve the goal of 20% reduction in water usage by 2020 or demonstrate current compliance through gallons per capita per day of consumption. The District was able to prove the latter. The Board of Directors collectively congratulated the customers of the District for their acute awareness of the importance of water conservation. Customer conservation efforts have enabled the District to serve as a model in conservation. Now, District staff can submit to the State for funding from the Prop 50 grant for the $248,000.
