Septic Prohibitions in Yucca Valley
The California Regional Water Quality Control Board - Colorado Region has amended the Basin Plan to prohibit the discharge from septic systems in Yucca Valley. United States Geological Survey findings have confirmed that septic systems are the source of increased nitrate levels in the ground. The nitrates have accummulated in the soil over years of septic system use. Although nitrates are the primary concern for eliminating septic systems, there are other personal care and pharmacuetical products, such as caffeine that can also impact water quality. The prohibition requires the phasing out of septic systems in Yucca Valley to protect the groundwater. The consequence of violating this order is said to be enforced through cease and desist orders on individual property owners and potential fines.
