Operations Manager

The Hi-Desert Water District is located in the Town of Yucca Valley, home to 25,000 residents, and the gateway to the colorful and healthful high desert. About 20 miles north of Palm Springs, California, the Town is bordered on the west by the San Bernardino Mountains and the south by the Joshua Tree National Park, and sits 3,300 feet above sea level. Clean air, low humidity and moderate temperatures make Yucca Valley a mecca for travelers and those who have grown weary of life in and around the city.

The Hi-Desert Water District retails groundwater to approximately 10,000 services within a 50-square mile area, with 15 production wells supplemented with water from the State Water Project. The District is currently updating its water supply master plan, sewer master plan, and facilities master plan, and is in the preliminary stages of planning the construction of a 1 - 4 MGD Water Reclamation Facility.

This is a key management position, reporting directly to the General Manager. The position is responsible for all aspects of the District’s water system and facilities in accordance with District policies and goals, and coordinates with the District Engineer on the development of planning and capital works projects. The Operations Manager oversees a staff of 25-30 employees including 5 direct reports.

The ideal candidate will assume a leadership position, and be an honest, hard-working, energetic and personable individual, possessing effective communication skills and the ability to establish mutual respect and cooperation. Must be receptive to new ideas and encourage creativity.

Candidates must have a California Department of Health Services Grade 3 Water Treatment Certificate; a California Department of Health Services Grade 4 Water Distribution Certificate; and an American Water Works Association Cross Connection Control Specialist Certificate. Requirements include a minimum of five years experience in the operation of a water distribution system and a minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience. An engineering degree is desirable.

The District provides excellent benefits, including a 9/80 work schedule and CalPERS benefit of 2.5% at 55. The District participates in Social Security. The annual salary range is $91,978 – $119,572, D.O.E. The Hi-Desert Water District is an EOE.
