Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour

The District hosted Bureau of Reclamation staff on a tour of the Wastewater Treatment Plant to share information about future recycled water projects. The Bureau of Reclamation offers grant funding for water reclamation projects and the District has been a past recipient. Efforts are underway to obtain additional grants to help fund reclamation projects to use the treatment water from the plant for sports fields irrigation and groundwater recharge to plan for drought resiliency in future years and reduce Yucca Valley's reliance on imported water from the State Water Project. Yucca Valley purchases water from Mojave Water Agency and imports it through the Morongo Basin Pipeline.

Holiday conservation tips

KEEP FOG OUT OF THE DRAIN FOR A STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY

Don't let a messy, expensive sewer backup ruin your holiday fun. Keep fats, oils and grease (FOG) out of the drains.

To avoid clogged drains and sewers, follow these tips:

  • Scrape leftover food, sauces and cooking oils into the compost bin
  • Use a sink strainer to collect solids and dispose of a grease can
  • Wipe cooking pan residue with a paper towel

Collect fats, oils and grease in a container (like a coffee can or pickle jar). Visit https://www.hdwd.com/328/Fats-Oils-and-Grease-Control-Program for more information.
